  • After another four years among the Bush regime, the American citizens are going to elect a new President at November 4, 2008.
I have not the slightest idea who`s gonna be the 'man', but I guess I can exclude Mike Huckabee, after I saw this commercial :rot:

Who is your favorite nominee ? Give reasons for your answer please.
  • He's liberal.

And he wants to pull the troops from Europe, Iraq, Corea. which is a great thing to do, he wants to decrease the power of the goverment, and, most importantly, he's not bribable.
  • Thanks for the Link, ganxxta1994! The video is really interesting! ;)
I think, or better I wishes me Barack Obama as new presidents of the United States of America. Above make him through his liberal basic attitude and his willingness to changes to social aspects, as well as in the climate-question, to the ideal new president for me!

  • OMG, that is so pathetic! LoL Ron Paul has a lot of support on the Internet, but not anywhere else. Yes, if Obama wins the Americans will pull their troops out of Iraq sooner, but I doubt much else will change. People are bound to be disappointed because they're acting like they believe he's the new messiah. Already he's 'changing his tune' on a lot of issues.

Why would it be pathetic to support Ron Paul? It doesn't matter whether the candidate gets a lot of support. You should support a candidate because of his beliefs, not because of his popularity!

Well, as far as I know, the election is on November 4th (oh, that's today already :D).

Good luck to Mr. Obama from my side by the way ;)
America just needs a change and he is the one, that I think is most likely to change the most!

  • @Maradona12: It’s true—the election takes place today (or were you just kidding? ;)).

According to United States Code, Title 3, Chapter 1, § 1, which deals with the “Time of appointing electors”:

The electors of President and Vice President shall be appointed, in each State, on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November, in every fourth year succeeding every election of a President and Vice President.

This sounds a bit awkward (“Tuesday next after the first Monday in November”) but was regulated by U.S. Congress this way, since November 1st is the Holy Day of Obligation within the Roman Catholic Church, also known as All Saints Day. That’s why no election would be held on this day. Furthermore, businesses are usually doing their books on the first day of a month with regard to the previous month’s proceeds and expenditures. And it was feared that—depending on how businesses went—the vote might be affected by this, concerning voters decision as well as the voting turnout.

So, Election Day of a presidential election will always be between November 2nd and 8th of the respective year.

Oh, interesting to know, I thought the old president could kind of choose when the election went down... (like 4 years +/- 2 weeks after the last election)
I think that's how it is in Germany.
  • Well, almost right, Jusher. ;)

    [off-topic]
Article 39 of the German Constitution (Grundgesetz - Basic Law) states that the election for the new Federal Diet (Bundestag)—and resulting from it the election of the Federal Chancellor among the candidates appointed by the Federal President—shall take place not earlier than 46 and not later than 48 month after the first assembly of the latest Federal Diet.

The first assembly of the 16. Federal Diet was on October 18th, 2005. Thus, the next election for the new and 17. Federal Diet will very probably be between August 18th and October 18th, 2009.

  • Well, election is over and Obama won with 364 electoral votes compared to McCain's 162. Only one state (Missouri) hasn't quite decided who shall get their 11 electoral votes yet. But they don't seem to matter anyway, given the huge victory of Obama.

I think it's time to close this thread, since there is not much to discuss anymore ;)

  • yes , election is over but thread is still open.It was a very exciting election this time and people can't stop talking about it even the election happened month ago - it was tooo spectacular. Specially after the Bush era the Americans and also the world was waiting for someone spectacular - and they got it . The first "black" president of the U.S.A.- After the election means also before the election , so the world hopes there will be solved many problems until then , so do i. It seems this election was really very necessary in our days because in this hard times of war and unemployment the world was waiting for their new "saver" - lets hope he can.
